How is Search Engine Optimization works for a website?

The term “search engine” is often used generically to describe both crawler-based search engines and human-powered directories. These two types of search engines gather their listings in radically different ways.

Crawler-Based Search Engines
Crawler-based search engines, such as Google, create their listings automatically. They “crawl” or “spider” the web, then people search through what they have found.
If you change your web pages, crawler-based search engines eventually find these changes, and that can affect how you are listed. Page titles, body copy and other elements all play a role.

Human-Powered Directories
A human-powered directory, such as the Open Directory, depends on humans for its listings. You submit a short description to the directory for your entire site, or editors write one for sites they review. A search looks for matches only in the descriptions submitted.
Changing your web pages has no effect on your listing. Things that are useful for improving a listing with a search engine have nothing to do with improving a listing in a directory. The only exception is that a good site, with good content, might be more likely to get reviewed for free than a poor site.

“Hybrid Search Engines” Or Mixed Results
In the web’s early days, it used to be that a search engine either presented crawler-based results or human-powered listings

Link Building – Importance

In search engine optimization “off page optimization” plays vital role as they are related search engine rankings.

When we really talk about top SEO results its all about links that too quality links. It is very essential point to understand while doing link building quality links are important than the quantity because sometimes link popularity can literally make or break a site with the search engines.

Link building is the process of finding relevant, quality websites and receiving a link from them to you. In simple terms Link Popularity is number of quality incoming / back links that are pointing to your website. More Back links is more popular will your website. Quality link building is simply the most important activity you can undertake to get higher search engine rankings.

Back links to your website continues to be one of the most important factor in Search engines especially Google to rank well in the search results.

It is one of the most effective techniques to increase the rank of a site. It is being used by almost all internet marketers. It is part of off page optimization techniques. Link Building is getting links from other website and we can use various link building methods to increase our search engine rankings. The main aim of link building is to increase the flow of traffic to your site as well as to make sure that your site gets a good rank and this links comes from manually submission one way linking, directory submissions, article submission, press releases, forums, social bookmarking, blogs, and many more.

But remember while doing link building,  It’s a mistake to get backlinks from web pages that the search engine spiders can’t crawl and never place a link on your site that goes to another with a poor reputation.

The process of link building requires skill and knowledge. Search Engine Optimization іѕ a really ɡrеаt way to produce high quality back links to уοur site, that will hеlp уοur site to rank higher in the search engines. What is RSS?

RSS is expanded as “Really Simple Syndication – It is a relatively new and easy way to distribute the new updates / content via the internet. It a family of web feed formats used to publish updated content work such as blog entries, news, audio and video, breaking news, headlines. It is one of the best way for email marketers to distribute messages.

When the user subscribes to a feed of any website by entering into the reader feed’s url or by clicking on RSS icon / button. Google announced new web search index called as Caffeine

Today, we’re announcing the completion of a new web indexing system called Caffeine. Caffeine provides 50 percent fresher results for web searches than our last index, and it’s the largest collection of web content we’ve offered. Whether it’s a news story, a blog or a forum post, you can now find links to relevant content much sooner after it is published than was possible ever before.

Some background for those of you who don’t build search engines for a living like us: when you search Google, you’re not searching the live web. Instead you’re searching Google’s index of the web which, like the list in the back of a book, helps you pinpoint exactly the information you need. (Here’s a good explanation of how it all works.)

So why did we build a new search indexing system? Content on the web is blossoming. It’s growing not just in size and numbers but with the advent of video, images, news and real-time updates, the average webpage is richer and more complex. In addition, people’s expectations for search are higher than they used to be. Searchers want to find the latest relevant content and publishers expect to be found the instant they publish.

To keep up with the evolution of the web and to meet rising user expectations, we’ve built Caffeine. The image below illustrates how our old indexing system worked compared to Caffeine:

Our old index had several layers, some of which were refreshed at a faster rate than others; the main layer would update every couple of weeks. To refresh a layer of the old index, we would analyze the entire web, which meant there was a significant delay between when we found a page and made it available to you.

With Caffeine, we analyze the web in small portions and update our search index on a continuous basis, globally. As we find new pages, or new information on existing pages, we can add these straight to the index. That means you can find fresher information than ever before—no matter when or where it was published.

Caffeine lets us index web pages on an enormous scale. In fact, every second Caffeine processes hundreds of thousands of pages in parallel. If this were a pile of paper it would grow three miles taller every second. Caffeine takes up nearly 100 million gigabytes of storage in one database and adds new information at a rate of hundreds of thousands of gigabytes per day. You would need 625,000 of the largest iPods to store that much information; if these were stacked end-to-end they would go for more than 40 miles.

We’ve built Caffeine with the future in mind. Not only is it fresher, it’s a robust foundation that makes it possible for us to build an even faster and comprehensive search engine that scales with the growth of information online, and delivers even more relevant search results to you. So stay tuned, and look for more improvements in the months to come.

How To Report Google Scams and Blackhat SEO

I just came across this article ” How To Report Google Scams and Blackhat SEO” and thought it might be useful:

The amount of scams this year has been growing so fast that Google has taken serious action. In an attempt to thwart the worsening emails, websites and advertisements that claim you can make big money from home with little effort using Google products and services, Google began banning advertisers this month. The messaging that the scams use read like they are written by a regular person who stumbled across an amazing monetary opportunity and referencing Google services as the tools they used.

Google is not affiliated with any of these scams and are now actively detecting the violators. They are also offering ways for you to keep an eye out as well. If you have been ripped off or suspect a scam, report it here. If you have been contacted by someone to place a suspicious link on your site for money, report it to Google using this paid link report form.

It is also important within the SEM and SEO communities to keep an eye for websites or other companies running blackhat tactics and strategies. If someone leaps up through the rankings within a matter of a week, but lacks any substantial SEO/SEM campaign to justify it, there most likely is a blackhat behind it. Keep yourself and your business safe online from the growing amount of scams and blackhat techniques.

SEO Tactics

In Search Engine Optimization there are different categories of tactics to boost for search engine rankings as follows:
White Hat SEO Tactics
Black Hat SEO Tactics
Grey Hat SEO Tactics

In order to get search engine rankings webmasters constantly attempt trick and this trick is named as Black Hat SEO. Following these tactics tend to drop from these as search engine positions as fast as they climb and even banned the site in search engines.

Keyword Stuffing:
Keyword Stuffing is considered to be an unethical SEO technique and has been used in the past to obtain high keyword density and maximum search engine ranking. Stuffing keyword on the web page with irrelevant content only for the sake of keyword density.  This method is completely outdate and google no longer gives good rankings to pages.

Hidden Text:
Most search engines consider hidden text to be spam. Hidden Text is not visible to the human eye, yet is still readable by search engine spiders. Webmasters stuff their keywords and keyword phrases in the hidden text to increase their keyword density and improved SE rankings.

Cloaking:
Cloaking is also know as stealth is a technique used by some web sites to deliver on page to search engine for indexing while serving entirely different page for the users.

Doorway Pages:
Doorway pages are web pages that are created for spaming the index of search engine by inserting results for particular phrases with the purpose of sending visitors to a different page. They are also known as bridge pages, portal pages, jump pages, gateway pages, entry pages and by other names. Doorway pages that redirect visitors without their knowledge use some form of cloaking.

Redirects:
Redirecting, when used as a black-hat tactic, is most commonly brought in as a compliment to doorway pages.

Finally always follow the right Search Engine Optimization Tactics to get good search engine Rankings.

Boost up your rankings with Google, MSN and Yahoo!

Follow simple steps about Keywords to boost up your rankings with Google, MSN and Yahoo!

Here is the list of things that may change your Search engine ranking positions in three Major search engines. The most of the steps from the list are valid to Google Search engine and to some extant they work for Yahoo and MSN Search engines. The four factors that boost up your rankings are Keywords, Metatags, Links and Content. So I am giving you some tips (already given by so many Experts) on keywords insertion to a web page.

Before getting into the point I will suggest you to have a set of Popular and secondary key words with you. If you don’t have get it from

Word Tracker Tool
MarketLeap
Nublue

Key words in URL

Keywords in URL help a lot to differentiate that what your page belongs to. You are offering SEO & SEM Services, where “SEO SEM Services” is the keyword phrase you attempt to rank well for.

Example: http://web-developers.co.in/seo_sem_services.htm

Key words in Title<tag>

Title is most important place to have keywords, because it characterize your page in short from and also the <title> tag shows as your page title in search results. The title tag should not exceed 70 characters length with your relative keywords.

Keyword Density in Page

The important point you need to check the Key word density. Major keywords can have 4% – 7 % and 1% – 2% for your minor keywords. More than 10% is suspicious and its look likes keyword stuffing.

http://tool.motoricerca.info/keyword-density.phtml

Keywords in Anchor text

Very important, especially for the anchor text of inbound links, because if you have the keyword in the anchor text in a link from another site, this is consider as getting a link from this site not only about your site in general, but about the keyword in particular.

Insert Keywords in Headings (<H1>, <H2>, <H3> etc.)

You can place Keywords in Headings also. Your page should have relative text about the particular keywords.

Insert Keywords in <alt> tags

Use alt tags for images on your page so Search engine Spiders (Actually don’t read images) can read their textual descriptions in the <alt> tag. If you have images on your page, fill in the <alt> tag with some keywords about them.

Insert Keywords in Metatags

These tags for Yahoo! and MSN SE but not for Google, because Yahoo and MSN still rely on them, so you need to have these tags for optimizing Yahoo! and MSN.

Use Keyword phrases

In addition to keywords, you can optimize for keyword phrases (Two or more keywords combined to form a search query). So you can get a lot of exact matches of the search string but sometimes it makes sense to optimize for 2 or 3 separate keywords (“SEO” and “services”) than for one phrase that might occasionally get an exact match.
Use Secondary keywords

Everyone is optimizing for the most popular keywords, so there will be less competition in optimizing secondary keywords. If you are offering (Beauty Spa) services to particular area you can (Beauty Spa in Hyderabad) get considerably better targeted traffic
Spelling error in Keywords

Spelling errors are very common. These also get you some littlie traffic but having spelling mistakes on your page does not make a good sense. So don’t do it on your page, you can do it only in the Metatags.

You can get a little traffic to your site by following below steps.

Use Keywords in the Content also useful to get little traffic to your site

Use Keyword stemming for other languages sites to rank well.

Use Synonyms of the target keywords for English language sites to get little traffic.

You may loss your traffic by doing below steps:

Don’t do Keyword Dilution. Optimizing for an excessive amount of keywords (unrelated to web page), this will affect the performance of all your keywords and even the major ones will be lost (diluted) in the text.

Don’t do Keyword stuffing. One or more keywords are overly repeated (Keyword density 10% and over) within Meta tags and Page content. This is considered spam and the website may be banned by search engines.

Steps involved in making a Search Engine Friendly Web Site

Have you decided to start a Web site?
Let us see some important points to make your Web site Search Engine Friendly before you launch.

When you have decided to start business, you want your business to be known to many people and get popularity.

In olden days when some start a business door to door campaign, paper ads, TV ads or telling to your family members, relatives or friends to tell about your business. But now everything has been automated and fast forwarded even small kids also surf the internet for the desired information. Just type the word in search box in the search engines like Google, yahoo or msn these terms are known as keywords in SEO point of view.

Let us see the procedure to make your website to get top position in search engines.

First of all to start business through website needs keywords. Selection of keywords is very necessary and this is known as Keyword Research or Keyword Analysis.

Know your Keywords:

There are different tools available for collecting the keywords like Google suggest, Google keyword tool, word tracker, digital point, good keyword tool, seo book etc.

Basically you know about your business, with the help of the above tools collect the keywords

say some 100 keywords. But all the hundred keywords you cannot place in your site. First you select for few keywords around 10 to 15 keywords.

How will you select those keywords? Suppose you have selected a keyword but if no one is searching with that keyword then there is no point in selecting that keyword and getting top rank.

So first do KEI – Keyword Effective Index that means how effective is the keyword and how much weight age and how relevant and important is that particular keyword.

Take Google Suggest for all the keywords for Google search engine. Then for some of the keywords suggest value is not available so remove that type of keywords. Say out of 100 keywords only few will have value say for 60 to 70 but then also you cannot take all the keywords so next step collect the competition value for those keywords which have suggest value.

So for 60 to 70 keywords you have collected suggest value and competition value.

Finally select the keywords which are having good suggest value but less competition. And at last select 10 to 15 keywords for your website.

That completes your keyword Research.

Know your Competitor:

For competitor research first take those selected 10 to 15 keywords. For each keyword collect the top ten competitor websites in your targeted search engine where you would like get top rankings and check the competitor sites what exactly are they doing to get top positions in search results.

Check their backlinks, how many pages are indexed, domain age, alexa rankings, compete rank and their visitors, SEO process like meta tags, content, url structure, keyword density, navigation etc. By checking the above few things you will able to get an idea about your competitor website and what is needed to done further for your website to those top positions.

On Page Optimization:

On Page Optimization means any changes done for the website will be able to see that doing some changes on page / website itself.

1. Content – Prepare the content with relevant and selected keywords because today also Content is the king. Content should be unique which should be easily understandable for both user and search engines.

3. Navigation – It should be clear to users as well as for search engines too.
4. Keyword Density – Keyword Density also very important role for getting top rankings.
5. Meta tags – Prepare the Meta tags they are mostly Meta title, Meta description and Meta keywords.
6. If your website consists of images use alt tags for the images
7. Use header tags for main headings and sub headings. There are header tags from h1 to h6.
8. Anchor links or text links also good role for rankings

Off Page Optimization:
Off Page Optimization means any changes done for the website will not able to see that changes on page / website itself.

Mainly done for link popularity.

More backlinks means more famous, more famous get top rankings in search engines.
